Swedish alcohol monopoly also takes responsibility for wineries...
The Swedish state-owned company Systembolaget, which holds the monopoly for the trade in all alcoholic beverages, has set itself new, far-reaching climate targets. The aim is to halve current emissions by 2030. The targets cover the entire supply chain from grape to glass. This means that the wineries' emissions from grape growing, vinification, packaging and transport are included in the balance, as are customers' journeys to and from the shops across Sweden.
Ann Carlsson Meyer, CEO of Systembolaget, says: "The entire value chain, from the cultivation of raw materials to the recycling of packaging, influences how big the emissions become. We have a great responsibility to do everything we can to reduce climate emissions throughout the chain. I am proud that we now have to meet these strict and necessary climate targets. They are ambitious, and to achieve them we look forward to continued good cooperation, among others with our many suppliers."
The Scandinavian alcohol monopoly is considered a pioneer in sustainability. Systembolaget also aims to reduce its internal emissions by 90 per cent by 2025 compared to 2019. The longer-term goal is to be completely carbon neutral by 2045....
