Riktigt bra summerat.
Flight 1 - Champagnes (2 Notes)
Flight 2 - Whites (4 Notes)
- 2000 Krug Champagne Clos du Mesnil 94 Points
France, Champagne, Le Mesnil Sur Oger, Champagne
Tasted this blind and even though it stood out as a great champagne at first it was after a few hours in the glass it really started to shine. Distinct champagne nose full of yeast, minerality, chalk board and plaster, slight nutty butter, white redcurrants, and unripe raspberries. There is also a very refreshing lime, citrus touch. Light bodied, but with great intensity and incredible length. Ridiculous, brutal acidity but with no green tartness. As far as champagne goes this is both subtle and sublime at the same time! Amazing stuff, but the QPR is horrible

- NV Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Rosé
France, Champagne
A very old bottle of this N.V. Original box it came in was stamped 1979 so most likely it lands somewhere in the middle of 70's. And it shows! The color is more brown than rosé. Tasted it blind so I didn't even thought about the possibility of this being a rose in the first place. Nose is clearly oxidized, but in a quite nice way. More in the style of a non fino sherry, with hints of Madeira. But there is also lots of nuts and some roasted aromas of coffee beans and bitter orange peels.
Won't score because it has no similarities to the young specimens you can buy today. But of the record I would say in the region of 88-89.

Flight 3 - Reds (6 Notes)
- 2012 Cape Point Vineyards Chardonnay 88 Points
South Africa, Coastal Region, Cape Point
A decent, modern chardonnay. Lots of buttery notes, light rubber, green spiciness and lots of tropical fruit, mango, peach and star fruit. Full bodied and round, almost oily body. A good, but round acidity in the background and a slight bitterness. The finish is quite long, but with a warm touch of alcohol. Good tasty wine, but had hard competition.

- 1983 Winzer Krems Riesling Spätlese Kremser Pfaffenberg 89 Points
Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal
Tasted blind. Much more alive and kicking than I would have thought. Unmistakeably mature Riesling on the nose. Petrol station, London Underground, slightly citrus flowery and some apples and pears. Round, just a tad off dry fruit with good fresh acidity and good length. Even though I wouldn't recommend decanting old wines in advance (as they suggest on the back label) this survived the night in the fridge very well.

- 2007 Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
A really nice treat! Typical white burgundy nose with some toasted oak, buttered popcorn, minerality, wet gravel and rubber. A nice flowery touch and some white peaches. Really good intensity, high acidity, medium+ body and a slight bitter chardonnay finish. I enjoyed this a lot!

- 1996 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc 87 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
I would say this wine peaked a few years ago, but nevertheless a quality wine and very interesting to try. Nose is fairly oxidized with lots of cooked cabbage, fish soup, paprika marinade. I think the common denominator is aromas of umami. There is also some oak, butter and coffee.
Medium acidity, slightly dry fruit and a little thin. Better on day two, but weakest in the flight.

- 1978 Chanson Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Fèves 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
This was a lot better than the last bottle I opened. Nice light red color. Nose is definitely mature, but with lots of strawberries, toasted oak, steak tartare, beets and a slight minerality. Dominated in the mouth by acidity, but with a lively fruit, round tannins and a decent length. Lacking a bit of complexity but very drinkable.

- 2009 Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro Ribera del Duero Reserva 88 Points
Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Big nose full of buttery oak, vanilla, butterscotch, anise, blackcurrant marmelade and dill. Quite egenrous fruit on the palate, with good length and tough tannins. Full body and slightly warm finish. My initial guess was Australia, but when someone said dill it's origins became painfully obvious. Like it, but would want a few more years in the cellar to mellow down the fruitiness just slightly.

- 1989 Château Cos d'Estournel 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Outstanding wine! It's vibrant fruit fooled me to think this was much younger. The nose and style is text book Bordeaux. Ceder, pencil shavings, raw bell pepper, blueberries, Corinthian raisins, tobacco and some wood ashes. Mature, supple fruit with a fresh acidity and distinct but well integrated tannins. Tonight this is just in perfect harmony.

- 2001 Château Kirwan 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tough competition tonight, but it took the fight well. Not as obvious in it's origins as the Cos d'Estournel, but still typical. A bit funky stable, oak, cigar box, blackcurrants and bloody meat.
Good intensity, medium body, high acidity and some very rough and grippy tannins. I like this, but it comes of as somewhat unpolished and probably needs a few more years in the cellar. Better on day two as well.

- 2011 Domaine Tempier Bandol La Tourtine 90 Points
France, Provence, Bandol
Tough to be the heavy wine in a flight of mostly elegant wines. Very fruity nose, blackcurrant, plums, sweet cherries, smoky tar, sun dried grapes, beer and lemon. Sweetish fruit on the palate, lower acidity, high intensity and great length. High quality wine but this is just not my style.

- 2006 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Very nice red Burgundy! Typical pinot spices, lots of red berries and some funky horse manure. Tobacco, leather and some cherries. Light body, round tannins and quite generous fruit. Very drinkable right now, and for me this was the winner of the flight. Only thing keeping the score down was the fact that it didn't really improve during the night, and even though it was still good on day two, it hadn't gained anything.

https://www.krug.com/en/krug-champagnes/krug-clos-du-mesnil/krug-clos-du-mesnil-2000
Men helt klart galna priser!
