With Chatters from Sydney, Australia and my wife. We met Chatters for the first time and had a FANTASTIC evening with outstanding food and great wines. The Mosel Reisling Spätlese was WOTN for us.
2 WHITES AND 2 REDS WITH NAMAE-SAN'S FANTASTIC MENU
We started with the two whites and continued with the two reds. We managed to keep a little Riesling for the cheese plate.
A cruel dinner for sure!

Reading on their website, it seems this wine never saw oak, but it certainly behaved like a very oaked wine...
Still light yellow with a roasted oak character (No oak! Fair dinkum!). Clean citrus, pure white fruits.
On the palate this has a rather high, piercing acidity from the early harvest. Transparent, very fine build and a body that is slim, yet packed. Green apples and some honey. Good length.
I would NEVER have picked this one out as an unoaked Semillion with age in a blind tasting. Quite an amazing wine. Wow!
Will surely not only last, but also develop over at least 10 more years.

1993 Vereinigte Hospitien Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese
98 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
I find no flaws with this wine, but don't feel experienced enough (non-comfortable) with Mosel Rieslings to award it 100 points. The obvious feeling is of lying down in a beautiful meadow in the summer... VOTN among four with pedigree.
Golden.
Rich, splendid, mature Riesling character with a perfect whiff of petrochemistry. Honeyed (suggesting Botrytis) with aromatic flowers (jasmine, honey suckle, Philadelphus) and summer fruit. Broad, superbly balanced acids in a fabulously concentrated, intense entry, mid-palate and somersaulting finish. Almost no sweetness in the wine anymore. Beautiful mouthfeel and transparency and oozing of mineral character. Also has an oily component together with the petroleum.
Geee, this is to live for! Wish I had more for immense pleasure now and for at least 10 more years.--

Beautifully matured wine that is still full of life, though a little advanced.
Mature red colour without any brown hues.
Big nose unmistakably Bdx with cedar, Bdx earth and a good round of sumi-ink.
Per os it goes a long way to show that its demise is a complete exaggeration and fabrication. Acids and fruit in good balance and tannins still providing a nice bite. Good length, a little faded, one-dimensional but with balance and pedigree.
Not "Margaux-specific" by any standards, but quite a wine to enjoy for some odd 10 more years for those of you still stashed.

This is an unwashed and unruly medieval warrior: a minimum of refinement in a full bodied barbarian.
Ruby red.
Nose is filled with both red and dark fruits, coffee notes and wet leaves in the fall. M+++ tannins that mellowed over the evening. M++ acids that speak italian. Fabulous concentration and good length. Not complex. Not layered. Rustic and a great example of such wines.
Would work well with anchovie-garlic pizza today.
Looking forward to what is in the final btl some 10 years from now. Hopefully a scarred and seasoned warrior with fabulous stories to tell!
