Roligaste feature hade vinet från Kreta - "During maturation, Cretan music is played for the wine - a vital step in the vinification process."
Jag orkar inte översätta, så lägger in det jag skrev på utrikiska.
In this tasting, Julio took us island hopping from Sicily to Sardinia, Samos, Santorini, Crete, and the Canary Islands.
NV Badalucco De La Iglesia Garcia Il Litro
From Sicily. 100% Grillo grapes. Orange wine. Old winery from 1880. "Il Litro" is a blend of different vintages, with each year's cuvée incorporating a 12-month-aged barrel from the first Grillo harvest, combined with 2 or 3 previous Grillo vintages.
Apricot, peach, orange with some smoke. Great tannic texture.
2023 VikeVike Barbagia Granazza
From Sardinia. Made from the indigenous variety Granazza.
A bit anonymous (maybe needed more air) with citrus and herbal notes. Quite round on the palate.
2022 Union of Winemaking Cooperatives of Samos Primordial soils
From Samos. 100% Muscat. A cooperative established in 1934, uniting approximately 2,200 vine growers on the Greek island of Samos. Renowned for producing high-quality wines from the Muscat grape. ”Primordial Soils" is crafted from old family-owned vineyards, with vines planted by generations of the Vassiliou family.
Complex nose of very floral, grapey, orange zesty, spicy and mineral notes. On the palate fresh balanced acidity, concentred flavours, wonderful chalky texture and a long, saline finish. Lots of energy in this wine. Loved it!
2022 Artemis Karamolegos Assyrtiko 34 Ancestral Vines
From Santorini. 120+ year old Assyrtiko vines.
Fresh citrus with a pleasant oiliness on the palate. Bright acidity and a crisp, saline finish.
2021 Iliana Malihin Thrapsathiri
From Crete. 100% indigenous Thrapsathiri. Mix of young (10 y) plantings up to 140 years-old pre-phylloxera vines. 10% matured in old, 3rd use-barrels for 8 months and then 9 months in the bottle. "During maturation, Cretan music is played for the wine - a vital step in the vinification process." - oh yes!
Aromatic and floral, with some mineral dark citrus oil (almost some light Riesling vibes). A fairly rich body with a touch of bitterness on the finish.
2022 Mortellito Terre Siciliane Cala Niuru
From Sicily. 75% Frappato and 25% Nero d'Avola. Limestone-rich soils.
Pale ruby colour. Pure, clean, bright red fruit. Very fine, sandy tannins. Fresh and vibrant.
2022 Teularju Barbagia Mamojà Ghirada Erula
From Sardinia. 100% Cannonau. Around 600 m elevation. Single vineyard on granite soils.
Red cherry fruit, spice, floral hint. Fine, slightly grippy tannins. Refreshing acidity.
2023 Envínate La Santa de Ursula
From Tenerife. 50% Listán Negro, 48% Negramoll, 2% Listán Blanco. 350 to 650 m elevation. Red volcanic soils. Century-old vineyards. Whole-cluster fermentation with 20% carbonic. 8 months on lees in 228-litre French oak barrels.
Dark cherries, floral and that volcanic ash feeling. Concentrated yet very elegant. Fine tannic structure, fresh. Long mineral finish. Great wine.
