Firande av dotterns examen, en vanlig fredagskväll
Hemmavid (Umeå, North of Sweden)
INTRODUCTION
Five anticipating, proud and happy ppl in happy and very proud mode enjoying a two course dinner with some nice wine and as great food as we know how to prepare. And dessert!
FLIGHT 1 - FISH AND WHITES
I was the only person to prefer the Chablis... The Loire wine really delivered above its weight and married the halibut.
Stylish Sb that is restrained and very well made. Not enough oomph on the mid-palate, but allows for a beautiful mineral character of wet stones to shine through. Perfect acids and a perfect summer wine.
Will grow and develop for at least 10 more years.
Wish we had more.
(No screw-cap induced reduction at all.)
Prefered by all (except me) to the Les Clos Grand Cru we also shared.
Showed itself less intense than my memory (and previous TN) would indicate. Acids taking over too much, yet a stunning wine with delicious (still very young) fruit and great length.
Last btl a little after 2020.
Married the pan fried halibut.
FLIGHT 2 - HANDMADE SALCICCIAS AND RED WINE
This dish was made from two different Salciccias: rosemary type and chilli type. The dish included two sauces and seasonal vegetables.
All wines, except the Bdx, delivered great pleasures with this food.
A warm kiss. Lovely nose of mature fruit, integrated oak and herbs. From a warm place. The palate is wide and intense, just avoiding the pitfalls of jammy fruit. Delicious and utterly balanced wine spot on its drinking window. On an upward trajectory with great class.
A fabulous and absolutely outstanding nose of Bordeaux earth, very elegant Brett and mature fruit. In the mouth it has the typical 2007-wateriness that I can live without.
From Sweden's state run monopoly: excessively expensive.
A fully mature, wide and round, silky structure. Made in a warm place. Lovely!
We payed ~18USD for this btl. Quite ok bang for those bucks.
A warm-blooded Barolo that is incredibly beautiful. The first btl to be emptied this night. Loved by all around the table.
FLIGHT 3 - DESSERT!
Rivesaltes and Maury produce wines that I drink too little of. Magnificent pleasure and enjoyment with always a rich mouthfeel without the overbearing sweetness of many other types. Had with berry compote and raspberry mousse. Yummy!
Grenache in what is probably its best disquise. This is an utterly compelling and beautiful Rivesaltes that, if blinded, I'd have guessed from 2009... These wines surely live long and this one still is only fresh and fruity.
Deep, red berried aromas linger with the perfect acids and medium sweetness. Intensley concentrated and pure with a brilliant future ahead.
A distinct pleasure and a perfect marriage with the Had with the berry compote and raspberry mousse we enjoyed for dessert.
Only btl, need to get many more!
Guesstimate: Should drink well for over 50 years.
CLOSING
We all enjoyed like kings and queens. All food and all wines delivered.
