Blev lite fin-Bordeaux med vinkällargänget igår. Ber om ursäkt för engelskan, men så här dagen efter är det jobbigt nog att skriva en TN

1993 Ridge Monte Bello 92P
Not as good as I remember, or a less good bottle. In my opinion (I know others thought otherwise) this could not match the Bordeaux Premier Crus in the flight.
In fact it stood out like a sore thumb, and there was no doubt about this being the one wine that wasn't a Bordeaux.
Medium++ intense nose with aromas of raisins, corn on the cob, butter, tomato juice, rubber, blackcurrant jello, mint and a bit of ceder wood.
Medium+ acidity, very dry with grippy tannins. Even though its distinctly dry on the palate, the fruit that is there is very raisiny and dried. A good medium+ intensity and a long finish. The quality is there taste-wise, but I would have wanted a bit more complexity on the nose.
1983 Château Margaux
Looking at all the other notes on CT, this could potentially have been a flawed bottled. There was also a touch of wet card board on the nose. Not enough to convince everyone around the table that it was corked, but in my opinion it was lacking in complexity and depth as well.
Medium intense nose with clearly developed aromas of ceder, sesame seeds, apple core, cilantro, roasted oak, coffee, chocolate, prunes and a little cherries.
Medium+ acidity, very dry with lots of tannins. Medium intensity and length. This was clearly sub par. Felt tired and did not show any improvement during the night.
I will be a good sport and call this flawed.
1989 Bordeaux Premier Cru Classé Mélangée (Ej med på bild)
I'm well aware this is not a wine that exists. This was one bottle, blended of equal parts of Bordeaux Premier Crus en primeur of the 1989 vintage. According to the one who brought it along, and blended it, that would have been Petrus '89, Lafite '89, Mouton '89, Margaux '89, Latour '89 and the deuxième Cru La Mission Haut-Brion '89.
Even though I didn't taste it blind, the rest of the gang who did had no thoughts on this being anything else than a proper wine. It did in fact beat both the Margaux '83 and the Monte Bello '94 on collective points.
Medium+ intense nose with very reductive aromas of flint, cap gun powder, roasted oak, coffee, chocolate chip cookies, dirt, some dried fruit, lots of brett (almost Oude Geueze-ish) and a touch of soy sauce. Intriguing and fun. My only critique is that there is not much development on the nose during the night. Stayed much the same. A theory of mine might be that there have been some sort of brett-yeast infection on the bottle and/or that there wasn't enough oxygen in the bottle (it was filled completely with no air pocket at all) to let it evolve normally.
Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, good balance and there is still plenty of life in the wine. Medium+ intensity and a medium finish. Slightly bitter on the finish.
Tasty, wierd and 100% one of a kind!
1979 Château Lafite Rothschild 93P
The oldest wine in tonight's flight, and the most mature. And even though it might have been tastier 10 years ago, there is still plenty of love left!
Medium+ intense nose with fully developed aromas of tobacco, soy sauce, sesame seeds, cigar box, some green notes, lots of ceder, prunes, and sponge cake. Complex in all its maturity, and a lot better than I had expected. Tasted a '79 Margaux a couple of weeks ago that was far over the hill, and was expecting this to be along the same lines.
On the palate it's quite round, with fine grained tannins, medium acidity and a medium(-) body. Lacking somewhat in intensity (medium) and the finish could have stuck around longer.
There is clear age here, and I would recommend anyone who's fortunate to own a bottle of this to open it fairly soon. Even though it drinks good now, it's probably post peak.

1989 Château Latour Grand Vin 96P
Medium intense nose with aromas of roasted oak, burned wood, wet gravel, concrete, dirt, dark fruit, wood, ceder, tobacco, coffee and chocolate. Very good depth and high complexity. There is just layer upon layer with classic Bordeaux. Took some time to open up though, and as always the best sip and sniff is the last one.
Medium+ acidity, distinct, medium+ tannins well balanced by a vibrant fruit. High intensity and a long, long finish. Medium+ body. The plate also felt very tight knit at the start, but given an hour in the glas out come a beautifully balanced, silky, elegant wine.
Would love to drink this in 5 years, and the very good '89 vintage really have kept this wine in great shape. The QPR is not very god though
1994 Pétrus 97P
This was absolutely stunning. Not nearly as elegant as the Haut-Brion '98 and Latour '89 in the same flight, but with magnific power and depth.
Nose starts of somewhat muddled and I would say this took the longest of the wines in the flight to open up. But when it did, it surpassed them all! Medium+ intense nose with developing aromas of tar, morello cherries, ceder, fresh tobacco, lots of roasted oak (but crazy expensive ones), coffee, premium dark chocolate, pencil shavings, herbs, liquorice, a little barnyard, raw meat and brooding dark fruit.
Medium+ acidity, distinct tannins that are delightfully well integrated and balanced by a high intensity with lots of almost inky, but not at all sticky fruit. Medium+ body, and a ridiculously long finish.
This acctually lived up to my expectations, or to be honest I was prepared to be somewhat dissapointed by this. Looking at what the retail cost is here though, the QPR is beyond terrible. I thought the Haut-Brion '98 by its side was more or less equal in quality, albeit different qualities, and you can still buy two of them for the same price as this wine.
1998 Château Haut-Brion 97P
At 17 years of age, there is still plenty of youth and power and I had I tasted this blind I would probably never have put this as older then 10.
Medium+ intense nose with aromas of exquisite oak, a little perfume, herbs, black fruit, blackcurrants, blackberries, plums, a trace of green, butter, violettes, ceder, dirt and a little barnyard. Complex, deep and elegant!
Medium+ acidity, perfectly balanced with tight fruit, plenty of tannins. High intensity and a composed, ever lasting finish. Elegant, refined, graceful.
I wouldn't hesitate (not that I have another bottle, or will ever buy one at today's prices) to keep this in the cellar for 10 more years. Drinks really well right now though.
