Lördagen till ära blev det vinprovning hos mina föräldrar, som tacksamt nog är väldigt uppmuntrande när det kommer till att A) Jag pluggar vidare med WSET Level 4 och B) De tycker om att dricka gott!
1.
Appearance: Clear, deep intensity ruby colour. Slow legs, no deposits.
Nose: Clean, youthful, medium intensity aromas of blackberry, menthol, chocolate and oak.
Palate: Wine is dry, medium (-) acidity, medium tannin, medium alcohol and medium body. Medium intensity flavours of bramble, jam, oak, chocolate, prune, menthol. Finish is medium. Smooth texture.
Conclusions: Wine of good quality, mid-priced. Drink now, not suitable for ageing or further ageing. Not very complex, a bit low acidity.
Possible origin New World, possible grape variety Shiraz. Aussie Shiraz, 2 years old.
Wine: 2012 Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz.

A: Clear, medium intensity purple colour. Slow curtains, no deposits.
N: A bit unclean (?), medium (+) intensity aromas of dry spice, "brödkummin", pickles, oak, red cherry, wild raspberry. Youthful.
P: Wine is dry, medium acidity, coarse dry medium (+) tannin, medium alcohol and medium body. Medium intensity flavours of spices, wild raspberry, "brödkummin", oak, savoury notes. Finish is short.
C: Wine of acceptable quality, mid-priced. Dry tannins, low complexity. Faulty? Warm climate origin, possible variety Mourvèdre and/or with Grenache, Shiraz. Old World? Bandol? Provence? 2 years old.
Wine: 2013 Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah. Completely wrong but wine might be faulty, even though description mentions "
Provencal herbs". Very odd.

A: Clear, pale intensity ruby colour. Slow legs forming, no deposits.
N: Clean, youthful, medium intensity aromas of blackberry, raspberry, oak, medicinal herbs, wet stone. Wine is youthful, lots of primary aromas.
P: Wine is dry, medium (+) acidity, medium (+) fine-grained tannin, medium alcohol and medium body. Medium intensity flavours of raspberry, blackberry, liqourice, wet stone, oak, cooked blackberry, somewhat burnt notes. Finish is medium (+).
C: Wine of very good quality, high-priced. Can drink now, but has potential for ageing or further ageing. Good concentration and length! Well balanced and with acidity and tannic structure to develop further. Cool climate. Old World. Syrah. Northern Rhône. 3 years.
Wine: 2012 Delas Frère's Cornas.
Jag var förstås rätt nöjd med två rätt av tre möjliga, men som bonus gick jag bet rakt av på tre vita därefter.
Dessa provades dock bara i glas och utan anteckningar eller vidare funderingar. Men man får vara glad för att man lär sig!
