Vi såg fö flera kändisar (tema: who cares?).

2009 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard, 91p
Willamette Valley
Bought at the restaurant and decanted for 1 hr, enjoyed over 3 hrs.
Expressive PN nose with transparent mineral notes and a hint of sweetness. Aromatic in the best sense of the word.
In the mouth, it is an interesting wine that is transparent and full of life. Perfectly balanced and did well with the foods. PN spicy character shone through well. Quite intense and did well with all foods, except the cheese plate.
Wife: 91p.
Quite enjoyable with the GREAT food at La Rochelle 'Sanno' (Tokyo).

2009 Alain Voge Cornas Vieilles Vignes, 91p
Opened Monday, slow-oxed until Friday when dbl decanted and brought to restaurant.

First day:
Overly acidic, very young Syrah with a clawing tannic grip. Not particularily useful as a wine.

Friday:
Much better, but not yet a very high score. Not balanced, because of the overly pronounced acids. The thin mid-palate from day 1 is gone, and very fine rich aromas of Rhône Syrah (black pepper, meat, garrigue) can be enjoyed. Fruit is still massively young, but well restrained and in great shape for the longer haul.
Wife: 90p.
Final btl before 2030.
Quite enjoyable with the GREAT food at La Rochelle 'Sanno' (Tokyo).

Almost very good.
Always interesting to see what age does to wine.

This is a 14 yr old rather humble wine that is mellow mellow mellow and by most standards past its prime. But as an evolved wine, it shows off in great fashion. The nose started out poorly, at first suggesting that there was nothing drinkable in the btl. But after some hrs of decanting, the nose, surprisingly, promised more than the palate could deliver. Soft, mature, dark fruits, a bit of spicy herbs and old tea leaves on the nose together with the assertion that this wine would pack a punch.
On the palate, there is no punch. This is ultra mellow and smooth, all possible edges are long gone. Completely molten tannins and M acids. Some fruit still lingers on. Ok length. Full bodied. Nothing complex and nothing spectacular, but a rather good wine that we were fortunate to find on sale at a local wine shop (Yokohama) a few weeks ago.

Wife: 88p.

2009 Cottanera Fatagione Sicilia IGT, 90p
Nerello Blend, Nerello Mascalese
interesting enough for an evening of fine dining, but enjoyed in great company and somewhat humble dishes.

A great food wine with an almost exaggerated cassis-cherry nose, verging on the chemical ester versions. Acids M+ and tannin M with quite a few things going on on the palate with red fruits and berries, some small "summer forrest" aromas and molten butter lining the finish. Great concentration, intensity and length in a balanced and happy youthful wine.
Wife: 91p
Quite a bargain!
Wish we had more. Will evolve for some more years.
At La Verdura (Yokohama).

FLIGHT 1 - WHITES(2 NOTES)
  • 2012 Delas Frères Hermitage Blanc Domaine des Tourettes90 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Most definitely a high quality wine, but it is far of my taste and thus 90 points but no more. Not a lot of fruit, but quite fresh nontheless. Citrus, flowers, grape, stony minerality, a bit of roasted oak and lots of raw wood.

My problem with white Rhone wines is the non existent acidity, for me they are just lacking what makes white wines so great! The palate has a quite oily, fat texture. Very good intensity and a long, just slightly warm finish.

  • 2003 E. Guigal Ermitage Blanc Ex-Voto92 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
I don't understand this wine. Incredibly deep and complex nose with candle wax, butter, paint bucket, turpentine, corn, wood, ceder, furniture polish, smoke, leather and bitter oranges. Distinct oxidation, with similarities to the Colheita port tasted earlier the same day. Even though it has a good intensity, a full body it is strangely lacking in composure.
I guess you really have to enjoy this type of wine, what a waste on me!
FLIGHT 2 - REDS 1/2(4 NOTES)
  • 2009 E. Guigal Hermitage90 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Very well made, and quite modern styled. True to its heritage though, with some black pepper, lots of dark fruit, blackberries, blackcurrants and a little plum. On top of this Liquorice, and oaky spices, cloves and cinnamon.

Approachable on the palate, with a medium+ acidity, lots of fruit a bit of tannins, good intensity and a long, dry finish.

  • 2008 E. Guigal Hermitage93 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
I can't understand the low ratings this wine and vintage gets. This is freaking delicious!
Lots of spices on the nose, with green peppercorns, black tea, earth, meat, blackcurrants, funk, forest mushrooms and some green notes.
Fresh, high acidity with a medium body. Dry, but round tannins and good intensity and length. Not a wine for the fruit lovers, but for us who enjoy a bit of elegance and freshness this is just spot on ;)

  • 2006 E. Guigal Hermitage92 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Lovely wine! Nose is slightly less spicy compared to the '08 but with more meat and funk. Steak tartare, cured sausage, raspberries, blackcurrants and a bit of bayanus yeast perfume. Medium+ acidity, medium body, and a really good length. Impeccable balance and starting to show some maturation. Dry, long finish. Darn tasty!

  • 1999 E. Guigal Hermitage92 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Not very surprisingly a lot more maturity here compared to the '06 by its side. Meat bonanza with sour, cured sausages (Swedish Onsalakorv), raw meat, black minced pepper, barnyard, earth, soy sauce, mushrooms and a bit of cherries. Developed palate with less fruit and a more pronounced acidity. Medium body, good intensity and a dry finish. No tannins to speak of. Grows a lot in the glas during the night. Yummy!
FLIGHT 3 - REDS 2/2(4 NOTES)
  • 2009 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde91 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
A bit heavy and sticky on the nose, but to its defense it had impossible competition (LaLaLa). Spicy, peppery sausages, liquorice, fennel, perfume, dark fruit, blackberries, plums, sweet cherries, rice crackers and some raw meat. Palate is dominated by fruit with a medium+ acidity, good intensity and length. And as what seems to always be the case with Guigals wines, great balance. Dry finish, but not tannic.

  • 2006 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde92 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Out of the evenings 10 Guigal wines, this is the only one showing hints of sulfur. Rubber, burned, roasted oak, minerals, earth, menthol and dark cherries. Medium acidity with lots of fruit. Medium+ body with good intensity and a dry, good finish. Tasty but pales in comparisons to what comes next.

  • 1997 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque97 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Out-f-ing-standing! Truly a great wine! Not the biggest nose, but incredible complexity. Distinct maturity, green pepper, butter, wood, roasted oak, cherries, jasmine flowers, raw meat, violets, fennels, raspberries and some blackcurrants. Deep layered nose.
But the real treat is the fantastic palate. Dry, silky smooth tannins, creamy texture, with a fresh high acidity and round supple fruit. Medium body, high intensity and a looong, loong finish that just keeps growing in the mouth for minutes.

  • 1992 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne95 Points
    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Clearly more mature than the '97 La Turque by its side. And I won't keep my last bottle for too long. Nose is dominated by lovely roasted oak, coffee, leather, tobacco, ceder, pepper, meat and some green notes.

High acidity, mature fruit and velvety smooth texture. High intensity, and a long, but quite dry finish. Looking forward to try again, on its own. This time it wouldn't shine in the shadow of its younger brother.

1997 Warre Porto Vintage, 91p
Early stage maturity.
This btl was chosen because it is a cold season and it is high time to enjoy some port.
: Dark red.
: Dried fruits, sweet, alcoholic, attractive and rich (rather than complex or enticing).
: Balanced and rewarding wine. Still tannic and still youthful. Quite good and quite interesting. But this is not a super great port. It has good qualities, but absolutely not enough to warrant its current price on the market. Soooo many better ports (and other cheese-wines) out there at a better price.
I find Warre's ports to be generally more interesting as "a read" rather than as "a wine".
We learnt one important thing tonight: 2 guys can easily finish a btl of port for the cheese plate after having devoured 2 great btls beforehand. Go figure :)

2007 Clos del Rey Côtes du Roussillon Villages, 92p
Carignan RULEZ, but this wine is just TOO MUCH. It made me weary from its sheer concentration and intensity. The wine must rest and shed some of its hyperactive personality! May very well be a diagnosis for this wine...

Very dark red.
Nose: incredibly cassis and such a strong kerosene aroma that wife almost choked.
Palate: The cassis is muted but the kerosene is definitely present. Acid M+ and tannins M+. Full bodied, still without too much sediment = honestly BIG wine. Aromatic cool aromas towards menthol and (concentrated) dried red berries' fruit leather extravaganza. Still difficult to enjoy because of its weight and concentration. Will be better enjoyed later in its life. I need to learn this very important word: KEEP!
Wife: 89p.
3 btls to go, next one in 2017-ish.

2011 Baron Philippe de Rothschild Pauillac Mouton Cadet Réserve, 85p

Just about "very good". More <label> than wine.
Great points:
Balanced wine for early consumption. Balanced and non-complex red wine made for food pairing. (high acids, good fruit.) Great with food!
Minus points:
CF dominant nose and palate. Nothing to do with AOC Pauillac the way we percieve the appelaltion (Pichon twins, Batailley twins, GPL, etc). Blinded, I'm certain that Pauillac would not have been even on the third-hand-guess(t) list.
This wine was GREAT with the dishes tonight.
Wife: 88p.

Darn tasty!

Yummy!
